WHAT IS A Cervical Spine (Neck)

WHAT IS A CERVICAL SPINE MRI WITH CONTRAST?
A cervical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan is employed to create a comprehensive image of the neck area's spinal column, comprising seven vertebrae and eight pairs of spinal nerves.

This non-invasive imaging technique utilizes a magnetic field and radio waves, providing a safe and effective alternative to procedures involving radiation.

In certain cases, an MRI may involve the administration of a contrast material, which is delivered intravenously before or during the procedure. The contrast material serves the purpose of enhancing the information captured in the images.

STRUCTURES EVALUATED WITH THIS EXAM:

ARE THERE ANY RISKS TO CERVICAL MRIS?

Due to the absence of radiation, the cervical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedure is considered highly safe. The contrast agent used is also generally safe, with allergic reactions being uncommon. Throughout the process, the MRI technologist will closely monitor your well-being to prioritize your safety.

It's important to note that if you have metallic implants in your body, an MRI can exert a mild force on them. Although this force is typically not noticeable, you will be queried about any metallic implants before the procedure. Specific attention is given to potential issues with cardiac pacemakers and metallic objects around the eye, as these can pose challenges for the MRI process.
